What is a limited audit

This engagement consists of a limited review of a company's annual accounts and an opinion on whether the financial statements comply with Swiss accounting principles.

A limited audit differs from a full audit in that its scope is narrower: the auditor examines the accounting and financial documents, but carries out no exhaustive testing and no in-depth assessment of systems and processes.

Why it matters for your company

It provides a professional opinion on whether the annual accounts comply, which helps identify errors and potential problems in your financial statements and take steps to correct them.

It improves your transparency and credibility with stakeholders, and helps you comply with legal financial reporting requirements.

How it differs from the ordinary audit

The ordinary audit is a more exhaustive engagement, involving an in-depth assessment of systems and processes, substantive testing and extensive verification procedures. Its purpose is to give reasonable assurance that the annual accounts are free from material misstatement.

The limited audit, by contrast, is restricted to checking the financial statements and to an assurance statement for stakeholders. In addition, in the event of financial difficulty or once more than 10 full-time employees are hired, the audit becomes mandatory.
